What is the power of hooks?

Post by Bappy10 »

Major events such as the World Cup, the Olympic Games, the Elfstedentocht, but also holidays and other special moments such as Christmas, Carnival and Valentine's Day, are ideal for (funny) hooks. Lately, we have been bombarded with them. What is the power of such a hook? And which hooks have been thought up this year around Valentine's Day?

Yesterday, Telegraaf nominated 10 hooks for best hook of 2011. Herman Bos, Marketing Director of Telegraaf Media Nederland, discussed the purpose of this election: “In addition to the fact that our readers and visitors simply find hooks incredibly fun, we want to give advertisers and agencies insight into the effects of hooking because these advertisements are often better remembered, valued more highly and are more effective than regular advertisements.”

In a time where content is also key, and brands are always looking for content with a brother cell phone list high 'share and like factor' to share via their social media channels, hooks are more popular than ever. They work because of their recognisability. Hooks stick better, because they connect better with the recipient's experience than a regular advertisement or expression and also have (if well executed) a positive effect on the brand image. The funnier and more witty, the better!
