Ultimately, if tariffs and deportations become the Trump administration’s basic policy tools, not only will the United States continue to decline in relative rankings in mobility indexes, but it may even decline in absolute numbers. This trend, coupled with China’s more open policies, could lead to Asia’s growing dominance in global soft power.
