Beeline accelerated due to refarming
PJSC VimpelCom (Beeline brand) has completely transferred the 2100 MHz range from 3G to the 4G network in Moscow. This was reported by the company's press service. Refarming increased the operator's average mobile Internet speed by 30%, and the peak speed - up to 350 Mbit/s.

A representative of the press service of PJSC MTS reported that Beeline is not the first to refuse 3G in Moscow. In January 2024, the mobile operator noted that by the end of 2023 it had completed the refarming of all 3G base stations in the 2100 MHz range to the LTE standard within the Central Ring Road of the Moscow region. The company plans to completely shut down the UMTS 2100 network in the rest of the region from 2025.

At the same time, MTS subscribers can use 3G in Moscow in the UMTS 900 MHz range, the coverage of which exceeds UMTS 2100. "Over the past two years, we have significantly expanded the coverage of UMTS 900, which made refarming completely invisible to subscribers," said Vladislav Medvedev, Technical Director of the Moscow Region of MTS, in January 2024.

A representative of the MTS press service explained to ComNews that at the moment the operator is leaving a very small part of UMTS 900 for a small number of users of 3G devices.
