On Tuesday, the State Duma adopted in the third and final reading a law on increasing liability for the illegal processing of personal biometric data.

The liability of a citizen for the processing and placement of personal biometric data without the written consent of the subject of the personal data will be from 10 thousand to 15 thousand rubles.

This will entail the imposition of an administrative fine on officials in the amount of 100 thousand to 300 thousand rubles, and on legal entities - from 500 thousand to 1 million rubles.

The law was prepared and submitted to the State Duma by a group of deputies headed by Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin and faction leaders. The law is intended to "stop the dissemination of biometric data by various commercial organizations and ensure their state protection," Volodin noted earlier.
