Google has the right to sell ads for any brand without violating copyright law, the European Court of Justice's Advocate General has ruled in response to a lawsuit brought by Louis Vuitton against the company.
Google has been sued in France by luxury group 99 acres data Viaticum and Luteciel, travel agencies and CNRRH for profiting from words associated with these brands, although lawyer Miguel Poiares Maduro said this practice does not violate the law.
For the lawyer, this does not represent a detriment to the brands, since no product is being sold and Internet users' access to information cannot be restricted by the owner of a brand.
However, this case could have a twist, as the companies argue that by entering their names in the search engine among the paid advertising there were tickets to buy counterfeit or competing products.
