Sheryl Sandberg , the current COO of Facebook and founder of leanin.org , is one of the most influential people in the tech industry. She was named one of Fortune magazine’s “50 Most Powerful Women in Business” in 2008, her first year at Facebook . In 2011, she was named one of Bloomberg Businessweek’s “25 Most Influential People on the Web,” and in 2017 she was named one of Forbes ’ “100 Brightest Minds in Business .” But she had to work hard to break into the industry at first.

Before joining Silicon Valley, Sandberg was Chief of Staff to Treasury Secretary Larry Summers . In 2001, when George W. Bush became president, she decided to pursue a career in the private sector, specifically in the tech industry. But the beginnings weren't easy , as Sandberg herself explained in an episode of the podcast hosted by Mike Lewis, "When to Jump ," as reported by businessinsider.com .

That same year, Sheryl Sandberg began interviewing in Silicon Valley . “There were uruguay phone number a lot of rejections, and some nervousness,” Sandberg said, asking herself if she would ever land a job in the industry. In one of her worst experiences, a tech company CEO said he would never hire someone like her and had only agreed to the interview at the request of a board member.

Sandberg didn't give up, and ten months later, she received an offer from Google . Although the Google position was a step back from her government job, Sandberg doesn't regret her decision. She has said that you have to be willing to take a step back to move forward .
