2017 will go down in history as one of the most difficult years for YouTube . Google's video platform faced a boycott by advertisers after some of them discovered that their ads appeared next to violent content or related to religious extremism.

Once the storm had passed, but not before revising its entire policy and granting greater control to dissatisfied advertisers, it seemed that things were returning to normal for YouTube. A calm that would only last a few months, since it had recently found itself in the eye of the storm after comments related to paedophilia appeared in some of its videos .

YouTube responded by removing 150,000 accounts and more than 150,000 videos , and disabling comments made by alleged paedophiles on more than 625,000 videos.

Two issues that make it clear that YouTube's big challenge for 2018 is brand safety . This has been the sri lanka phone number starting point of the latest statements made by its executive president, Susan Wojcicki .

Through his words he made it clear that he will increase the number of employees in charge of reviewing the platform's content to more than 10,000 in 2018. A strategy that responds to the lessons learned from the problems mentioned at the beginning of this news.

"Our goal is to stay one step ahead of bad actors by making it harder for policy-violating content to appear or remain on YouTube ," Wojcicki wrote on the company's official blog.

YouTube will also strengthen its commitment to machine learning so that its human team has more support tools when it comes to identifying inappropriate content. Machine learning has helped the platform identify and remove more than 150,000 videos related to extremist content since last June.

A task that, according to Wojcicki, would have required around 180,000 people working 40 hours a week.
