The aptly named “backdoor” vulnerabilit chinese overseas africa database provides hackers with hidden paths around security encryption to gain access to WordPress websites via anomalous methods – wp-Admin, SFTP, FTP , etc. Once exploited, backdoors allow hackers to wreak havoc on hosting servers via cross-site infection attacks – compromising multiple sites hosted on a single server. In Q3 2017, Sucuri reported that backdoors are still one of many post-breach activities by attackers, with 71% of infected sites having some form of backdoor injection.

Backdoors are often encrypted to look like legitimate WordPress system files and infiltrate WordPress databases by exploiting weaknesses and bugs in outdated versions of the platform. The TimThumb debacle was a prime example of how a backdoor vulnerability using shady scripts and outdated software compromised millions of websites. Fortunately, preventing and remediating this vulnerability is fairly simple. You can scan your WordPress site with tools like SiteCheck, which can easily detect common backdoors. Two-factor authentication , IP blocking , restricting admin access, and preventing unauthorized PHP file execution can easily combat common backdoor threats, which we’ll cover below.
