What is the digital work card?
The digital work card was created by the Economic Freedom Law (Law No. 13,874/2019), which changed some articles of the Consolidation of Labor Laws (CLT) to adapt to the digital environment.
The digital work card was created with the purpose of being a tool used to prove and document an employment relationship digitally.
The paper document stopped being issued to most Brazilians in 2019, as a measure to reduce queues and speed up the population's access to documentation.
Does a digital wallet replace a physical wallet?
The answer is yes!
The CTPS app has existed since 2017, however it did not replace the physical document.
However, it was only from September 24, 2019, that the physical CTPS was actually replaced by the digital one, no longer being necessary for hiring.
If you already have a physical CTPS, you should keep it. It continues to be a document that proves your previous service time. Even if you already have a digital work card , it can show old employment contracts.
What will change is that, from 2019 onwards, for all employment contracts, whether new or existing, all notes will be made electronically only. This way, you will be able to follow them from anywhere using the app or the internet.
