Consumer Day: consortium reaches 9.41 million participants

March 15th is the world's Consumer Day. According to article 2 of the Consumer Protection Code, these are those who “acquire and use” products or services. Therefore, for the Consortium System, it is a very special date, since there are more than 9.41 million participants, that is, customers/consumers of the consortium product.

The number of active participants has been steadily increasing. The 9 million mark was surpassed for the first time in September 2022. The achievement was widely celebrated, as it occurred in the same year that the consortium completed 60 years since its creation.

Automotive vehicles in general, for example, account for 79.5% of the total number of participants. That is, 7.48 million, who are distributed among the groups of light vehicles, motorcycles and heavy vehicles. The contingent registered in January 2023 is 11.1% higher than the 6.73 million in January 2022.

Considering the segments that are included in automotive in general, the light vehicle consortium is the most significant. In January, it reached 4.21 million active consortium members, an increase of 8.2% compared to a year earlier, when there were 3.89 million.

In the motorcycle consortium, growth was slightly higher: 10.1%. It went from 2.37 million in January 2022 to 2.61 million this year. However, it was the heavy vehicle consortium that recorded the highest percentage increase among automotive consortiums. With a 40% increase, it went from 468.1 thousand to 655.21 thousand this year.

In terms of number of participants, the real estate consortium is the third largest – second only to light vehicles and motorcycles. In the first month of 2023, it reached 1.44 million, compared to 1.08 million in January 2022 – an increase of 33.3%. In the service consortium, the increase was 3%, going from 197.4 thousand to 203.41 thousand participants, in January 2023.

Electronics stands out in percentage terms
However, it is important to highlight the percentage growth of active participants in the electronics consortium. With an increase of 42.8%, it was the largest increase recorded among all six segments of the Consortium System. It went from 201.46 thousand participants in January 2022 to 287.73 thousand in January 2023. This represents 67 consecutive months of growth, as the indicator has been positive since July 2017.
