MTS enters the smart car market

MTS AiCar LLC will develop design documentation and software for the production of automotive electronics - they will be used at the plant in the special economic zone (SEZ) Technopolis Alabushevo. The new company will perform import substitution tasks. The division will also look for alternative solutions and technologies in short supply in the Russian and Asian markets.

The company will have a design bureau, laboratory and pilot production. According to a representative of the MTS press service, they will start functioning in the second half of 2024.

The company will help clients create their own intangible assets. At the request of automakers, MTS AiCar will develop and prepare R&D documentation (research and development work) for the implementation of special investment contracts within the framework of the 719th decree of the Russian government on localization of production.

The new company will engage in direct interaction with the research departments of car manufacturers and component suppliers, conduct research and test prototypes on its own base. A pilot production facility will also be created in order to develop its own platform for cars in the future.

"Back in 2020, MTS announced its entry into the automotive IT solutions and electronics segment and views this segment as promising. MTS entered the auto market in 2020, when it acquired the companies Stopol Auto and Koagent Rus. The first belonged to Oleg Potapov, the second to Denis Smirnov, who was also the CEO of Stopol Auto. Stopol Auto was later renamed MTS Auto.

MTS Auto LLC, a subsidiary of MTS, specializes in providing fast Internet access in cars, creating information and multimedia systems for cars, communication and telematics systems, and developing hardware solutions to ensure driving safety.

A representative of the MTS press service said that the MTS Auto vertical includes Navitel LLC (MTS owns a controlling stake), the Di Way Technologies plant being built in the Alabushevo SEZ, the 86Bits telematics platform, and the new MTS AiCar design bureau.

And MTS AiCar has only just opened, the planning horizon for this company is approximately the same as for new types of transport - two decades. The task of introducing profitable and cost-effective solutions to the auto industry will be carried out by MTS Auto itself, and the success of this enterprise will be determined by the development of the smart auto industry and consumer behavior," says Leonid Delitsyn, an analyst at FG Finam.
