The author of the book is coder Martin Michálek , which scared part of our sales team, while the development guys snickered behind their backs. But don't be discouraged. The first part of the book is general, the second part deals with the technical side of things. Even a layman who vaguely understands that the abbreviations CSS and HTML were not created by a random letter generator will find something to like in it. We will skip the technical parts of the book in this review.
Martin Michálek also writes a blog which is full of current articles . On this website you can also find excerpts from the book and you can download the book directly to your reader.
Up to the issue of mobile phones or what about large displays
In the first chapter, you'll find out why we need to talk about responsive design at all . We have two extremes here: super-large monitors on the one hand and relatively tiny mobile phones on the other. And the spoiled user demands that it works well on both.
If you've been reading our blog for a while, the graphs describing homeowner database the increase in traffic from phones will be more of a refresher for you. On the other hand, it's good to remember them, because in the words of an elementary school teacher: repetition is the mother of wisdom .
But the teacher forgot to add that wisdom lies in perspective, so Michálek adds it for her in the book. He warns that for the sake of mobile first, don't forget the bigger ones . Google recommends that the website work on one URL for all devices.
Don't forget about large displays
The basic lesson is: a responsive website works in the home theater and on mobile
At this stage, the technically savvy will appreciate the chapter on typography and defining font size using the rem variable , or the section on why and how to use images in the vector format svg .
There are various approaches to customizing a website – including the m.domena.cz website variant, this so-called mobile version is only intended for small displays. However, Michálek would not recommend it (and we do not develop websites this way either).
